Cleaning and Caring for Plumbing Fixtures
General Overview

Metal finishing is as much an art as it is a science.

Each category of finish involves different processes resulting in different visual effects and levels of durability. Each finish has a unique visual character that can complement the design of the decorative plumbing item, and thus the complete project.

Manufacturers use varying terminology when naming their finishes. For example, polished nickel, platinum and platinum nickel are three terms used to describe what look to be the exact same finish. Looks are deceiving. While visually these three finishes appear to be identical, the techniques and materials used to produce these finishes are different, therefore the care and maintenance required is also different.

The following are guidelines only regarding care and maintenance of finishes. It is absolutely essential to determine the specific surface finish of your fitting. Please refer to the manufacturer's instructions for procedures specific to their product in order to obtain the best result.

As with all cleaning products on decorative plumbing fittings, test on a small, unseen area before proceeding. Also note that many metal polishes and acid-based products can damage the finish of marble or stone on which these items may be mounted. Take care not to allow cleaning products to touch the stone.
