 ELTE, Ginger’s and Summerhill are making great strides to becoming a “greener” company. We are open to new ways of doing business if it means being eco-friendly and socially responsible. We carry a number of “green” product collections with more to come – the following is a brief introduction to each collection: Nature's Carpet Made of 100% wool, a rapidly renewable resource. The backing is made of jute, a natural fiber, held in place with natural rubber latex. The result is an ultra-low toxicity floor covering which actually improves indoor air quality for your health and comfort. Nature’s Carpet is all natural, biodegradable and LEED compliant. Patchwork Rugs Created by sewing together reclaimed fragments and cuttings of hand-knotted semi antique and antique Turkish and Persian rugs. The original rugs used range in age from 40 - 100 years. A large amount of time and consideration goes into selecting these antique fragments and making them fit harmoniously together. Organic Persian Rugs These beautiful traditional rugs are hand knotted in homes in Persian villages using hand carded and hand spun Persian wool and dyed with 100% natural dyes. Natural Dyes are made from the following: Brown – Walnuts, Yellow - Pomegranate Skins & Vine Leaves, Red - Madder Roots and Blue – Indigo. Free Form Furniture Collection Furniture pieces such as tables, consoles and light fixtures made from recycled woods from forests of northern Thailand – many of the pieces are hand carved using kiln dried monkeypod wood – a sustainable wood with a warm colour and rich complex grain. Loft Electronic Faucet A touch-free electronic faucet with an adjustable temperature control. The faucet is activated automatically when the user brings their hands within the sensor’s range, reducing water waste. The faucet is also C.S.A. approved. Purists Linen Collection All manufacturing and finishing for this linen collection is achieved without chemical ingredients. No chemical bleaches. No chemical dyes. No chemical finish. No formaldehyde. The natural fiber and natural fiber blends used for this collection include Egyptian cotton, linen, linen/cotton blends, virgin wool, silk and cashmere. In addition to our eco-friendly collections, we are changing our business practices to further protect our environment and reduce our carbon foot print. Business Cards Our business cards are printed on Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) approved card stock. The FSC ensures all stock is sourced from sustainable forests which are managed in accordance with the FSC’s guidelines. Degradable Bags We use degradable plastic shopping bags and paper bags in our showrooms. Paperless Transactions We utilize online banking and paperless invoicing when available to reduce paper waste. Electronic Equipment We use LCD monitors exclusively which use less energy than previous CRT models and we continue to source other energy efficient equipment such as inkjet printers versus laser printers which were less efficient. Storing Documents We store documents electronically to decrease energy consumption with the elimination of storage areas which need to be built, heated, cooled etc. Recycling We recycle paper, cardboard & ink cartridges. |
