Vintage Kjaerholm PK61 Coffee Table

Designed by Poul Kjaerholm for E. Kold Christensen

Vintage Kjaerholm PK61 Coffee Table

An iconic minimalist piece, this vintage PK61 Coffee Table was designed by Poul Kjaerholm and was manufactured by E. Kold Christensen, circa 1970s. Kjaerholm was known for using steel frames and straight-line designs, and the PK61 is a perfect example of his extraordinary work. Although a completely unique shape, the design structure uses only straight, clean lines and consists of a white marble stone tabletop perched atop a chrome-plated stainless steel base.

A trained cabinetmaker who completed his studies at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts, Poul Kjærholm had a particular interest in construction materials; especially steel, which he considered a material deserving the artistic respect that was commonly awarded to wood. Poul Kjærholm initiated a collaboration with furniture manufacturer Ejvind Kold Christensen in 1955, and that collaboration continued for the rest of Kjærholm’s life with the two families remaining close to this very day.
